In order to study the effects of aqua-acupuncture of Artemisiae Capillaris Herba extract upon the damaged liver, the carbon tetrachloride : olive oil(1:3 v/v) solution was injected into the peritoneum of rats and the aqua-acupuncture was injected into the corresponding loci to Gan Su(BL_(18)) and Gog Cheon (LR_8) of human body and a Blank locus of the root of tail. And the serum GOT, GPT activities, total cholesterol, glucose levels were measured in the rats.
The obtained results were as follows;
1. The serum GOT activity, both Gan Su and Gog Cheon aqua-acupuncture groups showed significant decrease but Gan Su group revealed better effect than Gog Cheon and blank locus (root of tail) group did not reveal any significant decrease.
2. The serum GPT activity, both Gan Su and Gog Cheon aqua-acupuncture groups showed significant decrease and blank locus (root of tail) group showed a little significant decrease.
3. In the level of glucose, Gan Su aqua-acupuncture group showed significant decrease but Gog Cheon and blank locus (root of tail) group did not reveal any significant decrease.
4. In the level of total cholesterol, Gan Su and Gog Cheon aqua-acupuncture groups showed significant decrease and blank locus (root of tail) group did not reveal any significant decrease.
In conclusion, the results of this study seemed to indicate that aqua-acupuncture with Artemisiae Capillaris Herba respectively at the corresponding loci to Gan Su(BL_(18)) and Gog Cheon(Liv_8) were effective on treatment for damaged liver and as the efficacies of aqua-acupuncture therapy depend on the effects of acupuncture loci, selection of acupuncture loci must be considered in clinical practice.
